My Fancy Flowers Finale

Today I finished the binding on my version of Fancy Flowers, the new McCall's Quilt Along project designed by Erin Russek. The quilting was done by the talented Karen Dovala. Here's the whole quilt:

If you'd like to try this project, the videos and pattern are all free until March 31, so there's plenty of time to watch, learn, and create. Click here for links to everything you need (except fabric, which you likely have plenty of!). I'll always have a special place in my heart for this one...it's the quilt where I learned to love appliqué.

Simply Quick Quilts on Newsstands Now

I'm very excited that this new special issue is now on newsstands, partly because I have a quilt patterned in it.

Modern Links, machine quilted by Karen Dovala

This is a very different style of quilt for me, and it was great fun to make. Even though it's a generous bed size, it was very fast to piece because you need so few blocks and they're such a simple pattern.

Digital and print copies of the magazine are available here. There are also 22 other patterns in the issue, so there's something for everyone!

Quick Quilts Sampler Finished

I finished binding the Quick Quilts sampler today and here's a sneak peek. The pretty quilting is by Karen Dovala. Fabrics are from the Studio Stash collection by Jennifer Sampou for Robert Kaufman. We start the series in the January issue, which we're preparing for the printer now. Another project checked off the list!

Binding Matters

The Quick Quilts sampler came back from uber-talented machine quilter Karen Dovala today, so I'm glad I got the binding ready this past weekend. It took about an hour to machine stitch the binding on and trim the quilt edges, and now I'm ready for my favorite part...hand stitching the binding to the back of the quilt. This always feels soothing and triumphant to me, so even though the weather's kind of hot to have a quilt in my lap, I'm looking forward to the work.

I used a binding pieced from lots of the block fabrics for this one, to bring a variety of colors to the outside of the quilt. I think it will punctuate the edge of the gray outer border nicely. Full photo coming soon!

Coming Soon!

Today we sent a new special issue to the printer. It's called Simply Quick Quilts and it will be on newsstands by September 3 (earlier in lots of places). My quilt, Modern Links, is one of the patterns, and it's a real departure for me. I found a chain block on EQ and started playing with it, and before I knew it I was making blocks and putting the whole thing together. It just intrigued me and I had to make it! The amazing thing was, even though it's a good queen size, it was super fast. The blocks are easy, and there's so much negative space that it was done very quickly and off to the quilter, the super-talented Karen Dovala. I can't wait to see it in print!
